The new school in Malakialina almost ready

The new school is now being finalized. The official opening will be on 29.11. Both wells are completed and are now producing clear drinking water from 16 meters depth. We have also mounted two sets with pumps and valves so that water can be pumped 85 meters further down to the water tanks at the two newly built toilets. This is a simple and reliable solution that introduces a new level of hygiene in the village. Fencing around the wells are now being completed using bricks from our own production.

As much as 100 local workers have been involved in building the school. About 95 % of the building materials for the project are produced in Madagascar. This means there are many positive side effects to the project, locally and beyond.

The project, which will soon be completed, is a great example of how funding and the private sector can work together to achieve sustainable investments. The project is not only cost-effective and quality assured , it also involves the local industry that can be a part of the modern HSE guidelines that we have implemented. When the school is finished, the plant season begins. The school will contribute as a first step to providing competent workers for the future development of the local businesses that are established around MWL plantation projects in the area.

MWL is very satisfied with the work , and would especially like to point out the introduction of and emphasis on HSE in the project. Throughout the process we have rehearsed the importance of HSE in relation to the workers themselves, but also with regards to the kids running around in the area. Examples include the use of a helmet and vest, and barricades around the wells that supply the school with clean water.
