Official opening of the new school in Malakialina
Despite some minor delays due to the rainy season and the challenges that come with it, it was a great moment for all when MWL could finalize a well accomplished school-project in Malakialina at the end of 2013. Malakialina is one of MWL´s most important areas of operation, and the result stand as a great achievement both for MWL and the local community. The impressive new building contains 8 classrooms that can take a total of 400 young students. Both MWL and the local community are grateful towards Grieg Foundation for fully financing the project.
The workers have done a great job and gained new knowledge from working on the project. Even though HSE-regimes, quality control and reporting were new standards for most of the local workers, we have seen great progression that has been useful for all parties. The project does not only form a basis of knowledge and learning for future Malagasy generations; it also contributes to an increased overall focus on HSE and quality when new projects are initiated. In short, both MWL and the local community gains profit and experience from these projects, this in turn leads to a strengthened long-term path for cooperation and growth.
